DIRECTION – Music video “Pozabu sm nate/ I forgot you”

Posted on

If anyone knows me, they know I love to try new things. I like to challenge myself in activities I don’t know, with the help of people who do. That’s how I found myself directing a music video for Jacuzza Krall and the band Monstrumental.

The song Forget About You has a long history for Jacuzzy. He broke up with his partner after 20 years of relationship. I sensed him wanting to deal with the loss in a constructive way and after talking about it we decided to make a video together.

I listened to the song at home, trying to feel the intensity of the pain of loss deep inside me and to find the thread of the story I wanted to weave into the video…

The philosophy of partnership is extremely challenging, as it is a kind of mirror of the relationship individuals have with themselves. It’s as if a partnership had 3 units: me, you and us. If anyone forgets about themselves, both the unit of me and us is robbed. Interestingly, sacrificing oneself for a relationship can ever be positive or negative. The worst thing is staying in a relationship because of the past, which was beautiful, and the fear of the future, that you will not meet someone who is better suited to you. That’s why maybe some people stay together, even though the relationship has already accumulated cobwebs and the threads of life are so intertwined that they can’t be untangled… it’s better to resign and move on. I have seen a picture of shoes that are connected to each other, only there are no more owners than the two no longer own each other. The memory remains, but the essence of the relationship has been taken on its own way.

I chose yellow shoelaces as the starting point of the video, which are connected into a big ball between the partners. If either of them moves, the other has to adapt. If he doesn’t adapt, they both stay in the same place – a metaphor of being trapped in a relationship for the sake of adapting to the other. The only way for both to move is either to adapt or to step out of their shoes and leave the relationship behind. In this way, both can go where they want to go. So the epitome of being trapped in a relationship are yellow shoelaces as a red thread. 🙂

I then played with the idea that in the past their relationship was beautiful, so it is a metaphor for the freedom of being barefoot.

I thought it was nice if they were playing with their feet, the soles of their feet, hugging and kissing….

With the project I had an opportunity to learn about production, drawing (storyboard many times…), analysis of the song, combining the pieces of materail in to a solid story. And I can’t forget this project. If left me a scar: during the preparation for shooting i had small surgery on my leg. Nothing big, but just a reminder to not forget my first direction.
